In unprecedented times such as these, it is how we come together, share and support one another that will help us to continue to move forward while taking care of one another! Every day is PD day! #myPDtoday

Routines and structure - the things we do each day that are second nature, that help us to get through the day without feeling overwhelmed.
Our morning routine - from breakfast to what we do just before we go out the front door are all part of helping us to have a sense of structure in our lives. These give us and our families, our neighbours, the people walking on the street, and almost everyone else, a sense, an illusion in some cases, of control over what we are doing. So when these daily structure are affected, as they are being affected now by the effects of the Corona virus, feelings such as anxiety, worry, fear, anger are going to happen to us and everyone around us.
This is New
This isn’t something that we have a lot of experience dealing with as a society - at least in the most current memory. This is the first time for many of us experiencing such issues as the reduction of services and the expectation of reducing contact with others, of the possibility of work places and schools closing. We are a society that has grown accustom to accessing and going wherever and whenever we please. Our societal memory of something this global is mostly stories we have heard from those who experienced WWII. And now, we will be creating our own stories.
What I do remember from those stories from relatives and veterans wasn’t focused on the negative but filled with people sharing and helping. Yes, there were hardships and loss but the stories were of people coming together to meet the challenges in new ways, in embracing new roles and doing things in new ways. In doing so, they began to reshape our society in ways we didn’t expect.
A New Reality
So as this new reality begins to settle in, let us remember how societies in the past have come together to work collectively to overcome and, in doing so, emerge anew. Let us be open to helping each other, in looking past the bottom line to sharing so that everyone is able to access what they need. In doing so, hopefully we will be able use the new tools of connection to help support one another and, maybe, usher in a new era of collaboration and sharing in ways we hadn’t thought.
Every day is a PD day - be curious, be playful, learn and share with others. We are living in historic times, the future will look back on these moments. Let us work together so that gaze is positive.
